Welcome, new clients!

Thank you so much for your support and your interest in becoming a part of our clientele!

We have worked hard to be a place where both people and pets feel comfortable and confident. The dream of Shear Standards of Grooming started because people believed in us and our mission. Clients across Eastern Iowa have trusted us with their pets and honored us by being loyal to the care we have provided for many years. Our customer relationships are important to us, and we are excited to get to show you the same experience.

We encourage you to check out the Resource Center online. It is a place where you can visit to get grooming advice, answers to questions, or simply an interesting perspective on pet grooming care. We provide tips on coat maintenance, puppy behavior, “do’s and don’ts” for dog training, and other valuable resources to help improve your life and your dogs and cats!

Before You Book Your First Appointment

  • Client Intake Form - Please fill out our new client intake form. It asks all the questions we need for a seamless booking experience and allows you to add photos of your pups.

  • Vaccine Records - Make sure we receive your pet’s vaccination records, as they are required prior to scheduling. You can either have your vet email them, email a photo yourself (make sure vet info and all dates are clear), or drop in with the records. They are required by state law.

  • Scheduling - When thinking where we fit into your schedule, remember that we are an in and out salon. This means dogs do not remain in the salon for long periods of time and must be picked up soon after being finished.

  • Scheduling Frequency - We only accept haircut dogs that are on a 12-week or less schedule. This ensures they stay in great condition and are used to coming in regularly.

  • Pricing - Our prices are not based on breed or size. Every dog is unique and requires different care. Because of this, we cannot give accurate quotes without seeing your dog. We can give a range, but quotes are subject to change.

  • Policies and Procedures - Please familiarize yourself with our policies and operating procedures when looking into booking at our salon.

What To Expect For Your First Appointment

  • When You Arrive - We will discuss your pets needs, address any concerns, and talk about what you would like done. We encourage reference photos if you have any!

  • Punctuality - Please be on time or a few minutes early for your appointment. (Being late may run into the next appointment and cause your appointment to be rescheduled)

  • Leash Reminder - For their safety, all pets are required to come in and out on leash or in a carrier.

  • Potty Time - Accidents happen, but please potty your pets before their appointment. We have a potty station in the parking lot directly across from our front door.

  • We are an in-and-out salon - You will be given a time estimate at drop-off. We will call you 15 - 20 minutes prior to your pet being ready. Pets should be picked up shortly after they are completed.

  • Early Pickups - For the safety of your pet and the groomer, please do not show up before you receive a phone call that they are ready. Pets get excited to go home and finishing their haircut can be dangerous.

  • Cancellation Policy - As a reminder, we have a cancellation and late policy in effect.
